Hosted by Ghetto Film School (GFS), this event brings together emerging filmmakers, industry insiders and an audience that loves film, to celebrate the next generation of filmmakers. Watch special preview screenings of new work by up-and-coming filmmakers from Oxford, London, and beyond – including an international short film shot on location in Vancouver. You’ll hear from filmmakers about how their creative practice has developed and pick up invaluable tips from experts on developing story ideas, troubleshooting problems, budgeting and film festival strategies. You will have the chance to connect with industry professionals, emerging talent in the creative and media arts, students, and those with an interest in filmmaking and digital content development.
GFS is an award-winning global organisation with a proven history of educating, developing and celebrating the next generation of great storytellers. Their London operation (GFS LDN) focuses on supporting the writers, directors, producers and showrunners of tomorrow with 65% of their student/alumni population identifying as women.
Whether you’re a student, an aspiring filmmaker, or simply passionate about digital storytelling, this is your opportunity to meet, learn and take your next step in the film industry.
Hosted and facilitated by Ghetto Film School’s (GFS) London operation, in partnership with Oxford Brookes University, Oxford Film Foundation and Film Oxford.
Produced by the Cultural Programme at the University of Oxford in partnership with Dr Stacy L. Smith, The University of Southern California’s Annenberg Inclusion Initiative and Ghetto Film School.
Women in Film is a day of screenings, talks and conversations celebrating the incredible women working in the film industry – from bold, new emerging voices to the industry leaders shaping cinema today. Explore how the perception and representation of women and gender minorities, both on and off screen, is changing and what more can be done.
Experience new work by filmmakers in exclusive screenings. Go behind the scenes with filmmakers as they break down their creative process. Follow conversations and hear about research that inspires, challenges and sparks change in the industry. Whether you’re here to learn, to connect, or simply to be moved by the future of filmmaking and gender equality, you’ll leave with new perspectives, fresh inspiration, and great connections.
All welcome – come as you are.

Ghetto Film School is an award-winning global organisation with a proven history of educating, developing and celebrating the next generation of great storytellers. With locations in New York City, Los Angeles and London, Ghetto Film School connects young and emerging creatives from underserved backgrounds with training, experiences, professional development, and networking opportunities to prepare them for success in the media entertainment industry. The GFS Fellows Programme is free of charge for all students, and features instruction from leading filmmakers and industry experts, visits to live sets and studios, and international travel experiences.
Ghetto Film School London (GFS LDN) equips students aged 16-19 for careers in the creative industries through a comprehensive 30-month, university-level, pre-professional immersion in cinematic storytelling and production training. Students receive instruction from storied filmmakers and industry professionals, including well-known directors, writers, and cinematographers.
GFS LDN has a unique, complementary role in the UK Creative Ecosystem via its core skill of identifying young talent/potential from underrepresented communities, removing obstacles to access and resources, and delivering a high-quality, broad introductory experience so that Fellows gain confidence and momentum at an early age. Following the programme, our support continues, connecting our alumni with partners providing specialised training platforms, university education, and early career paid work experience. In this way, GFS LDN contributes to the entire sector, while working alongside talent and the families to help them achieve their long term creative goals and dreams.
