FREE TO ATTEND

Presented by Asylum Welcome and The Cultural Programme

Monday 10 June

Exhibition

Opening Times

12pm – 5pm

Venue

The Old Cloakroom, Oxford Town Hall, St Aldate's, Oxford OX1 1BX

Asylum Welcome and the Cultural Programme have worked with refugees and asylum seekers based in Oxfordshire to co-create an exhibition showcasing individual stories and experiences, listening to voices that are often unheard.

The artists include families, young unaccompanied asylum seekers and adults from Oxford, Witney and Banbury.

The group has created diverse, moving and exciting pieces that speak to their different experiences across a range of artforms including photography, collage, clay modelling, mural art and theatre. As part of the project a film has been created by asylum seekers to highlight their experiences in the hotels and to campaign for free bus fares for asylum seekers.

The exhibition will take place at the Town Hall from 10-28 June 2024, Monday – Saturday, 12pm – 5pm. The exhibition is free and tickets are not required.

A special celebration event will take place on Thursday 13 June at the Town Hall from 5.30-6.30pm including nibbles and drinks. There will be music from the brilliant Starling Sessions, a global folk orchestra including refugees and asylum seekers.

This celebration event coincides with the Sanctuary Fair, this year’s Sanctuary Fair is being organised by Asylum Welcome in partnership with both Oxford universities and the City and County Councils. Marking the launch of Oxford Refugee Week, the aim is to raise awareness of the importance of sanctuary and showcase what is happening locally to connect refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants with students, members of the local community, and service providers.

The fair will feature a panel discussion, interactive workshops, exhibitions, live music, and a range of community organisation stalls. It promises to be an informative and engaging event that celebrates the diversity of our city. Register here if you would like to attend the fair and the celebration event: Oxford Sanctuary Fair 2024 Tickets, Thu 13 Jun 2024 at 13:30 | Eventbrite
