YELLOW-EYED TREE FROG
Scientific name: Agalychnis annae
This endangered yellow-eyed tree frog (Agalychnis annae) is native to the lush rainforests of Costa Rica.
Amphibians, the first animals to transition from sea to land, are now facing a devastating crisis. One-third of all amphibian species are currently threatened with extinction, and around 120 species have already vanished. As ectothermic creatures, they rely on external heat sources to regulate their body temperature, making them especially vulnerable to environmental changes.
Compounding their plight is the global spread of chytridiomycosis, a deadly fungal disease that has ravaged amphibian populations worldwide, pushing many species to the brink of extinction.
