LONG-TAILED BROADBILL

Scientific name: Psarisomus dalhousiae

When Flach shared this striking image of a Long-Tailed Broadbill (Psarisomus dalhousiae) on Instagram, he remarked how its appearance reminded him of a fighter pilot, thanks to its helmet-like black cap and sleek, aerodynamic features. However, many in the comments couldn’t help but draw a different comparison—likening the bird to none other than Elvis Presley, with its stylish, slicked-back “hairdo” and a bold blue patch on its crown that adds a touch of rockstar flair.

TOCO TOUCAN

Scientific name: Ramphastos toco

Recognise this familiar character? Toucans (Ramphastos toco) have become an iconic symbol of the rainforest, beloved worldwide and instantly recognisable. Their vibrant image graces cereal boxes, advertising campaigns, and children’s cartoons.

Traditionally portrayed in profile to highlight their magnificent, oversized beaks, Flach’s image reinterprets the toucan’s iconography. Here, it gazes straight back at us, creating a more intimate and striking connection with the viewer.
